FADE IN:

Extreme close-up on a spinning penny…

LYRICS

One…

Two…

Three…

Four…

We tilt up directly above it as it slows down and tips over, landing on heads with Abraham Lincoln’s mouth REPEATING INTRO LYRICS as the penny’s round edges quiver until it rests flat on the surface it’s atop.

From the extreme low angle of the penny Anthony bends down and swipes it up, with camera following as he stands right back up…

And from there fall back to reveal it’s him and his band as he sings to camera. (Wearing an Uncle Sam uniform)

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

(swing)

I’ve got a soul

that cannot sleep

at night when something

Just ain’t right

Blood red

but without sight

exploding egos

in the night

Mix like sticks

of dynamite

red black or white

this is my fight

Come on courage

let’s be heard

turn feelings

into words

American equality

has always been sour

An attitude

I would like to devour

My name is peace

this is my hour

Can I get

just a little bit of power

The power of equality

is not yet what it ought to be

(ought to be)

It feels me up like a hollow tree

(hollow tree)

Extreme close-up, Anthony to camera starts to turn around as he leads us to the images of…

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

The power of equality

Old news footage of civil rights marches…

Native American protests, with CrossCut footage of the rock band Xit…

EXT. THE WHITE HOUSE – DAY

Matching framing on Anthony from last shot of him we track as he walks down Pennsylvania Avenue…

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

Right or wrong

my song is strong

you don’t like it

get along

Say what I want

do what I can

He points across the street to someone in KKK attire and instantly changes the WHITE garb/hood to the colors of his own uniform, RED WHITE AND BLUE… The fool under the hate outfit rips it off…

Realizes his identity is exposed… (A senator in suit and tie)

And runs off while shielding his face.

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

Death to the message

of the Ku Klux Klan

A limo slowly drives by, Anthony walking alongside it addressing whoever is on the other side of that tinted glass…

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

I don’t buy supremacy

a media chief

you menace me

The people you say

’cause all the crime

wake up motherfucker

and smell the slime

It SPEEDS OFF and he goes back to focusing on camera while walking backwards down the street.

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

Blackest anger

whitest fear

Can you hear me

am I clear

My name is peace

this is my hour

BLACK FLASHES as we push and on him…

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

Can I get

just a little bit of power

MATCH CUT:

Back to Anthony with the rest of the Chili Peppers.

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

The power of equality

is not yet what it ought to be

(ought to be)

It feels me up like a hollow tree

(hollow tree)

the power of equality

ON END OF LAST VERSE he takes two hand-sized American flags (one in each hand) and starts to do a funky dance with them as we JumpCut him to…

  • The floor of the stock market.
  • The streets of a ghetto.
  • The floor of Congress.
  • A long line of minorities at a food bank.

(END WITH BLACK FLASHES PACED TO MUSIC AGAIN)

EXT. WASHINGTON – DAY

Starting from close-up on Anthony he flicks out tapes and CDs of political activist bands as if they were playing cards…

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

I’ve got tapes

I’ve got CDs

I got my Public Enemy

And comes to a Public Enemy medallion as he reaches the end of his stack.

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

My lily white ass

is tickled pink

when I listen to the music

that makes me think

Falling back to a medium shot the Washington Monument can be seen in the background of opposite side of frame.

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

Not another

motherfuckin’ politician

doin’ nothin’ but something

for his own ambition

Never touch

the sound we make

Sold sacred love

vows that we take

With more fall back we go to wide, Anthony below a waving U.S. flag on a high pole as he gets to LAST FEW VERSES. (BLACK FLASHES)

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

To create straight

what is true

Yo he’s with me

and what I do

My name is peace

this is my hour

Can I get

just a little bit of power

Back to him with band…

LAST VERSE we follow the stripes on his suit and…

MATCH CUT:

To extreme close-up of guitar strings… (Riding down ’em)

To fall back on guitarist.

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

The power of equality

is not yet what it ought to be

(ought to be)

It feels me up like a hollow tree

(hollow tree)

The power of equality

BLACK (WITH SILENCE)

EXT. LINCOLN MEMORIAL – EVENING

Anthony climbs steps which leads to the Lincoln Memorial… (Reaching top ON LAST VERSE)

LYRICS

(Anthony singing)

Madder than a motherfucker

lick my finger

can’t forget

‘Cause the memory lingers

count ‘em off quick

little Piccadilly sickness

take me to the hick

Eat my thickness

I got a welt

from the Bible belt

Daling with the hand

that I’ve been dealt

Sitting in the grip

of a killing fist

Giving up blood

just to exist

rub me wrong

and I get pissed

No I cannot

get to this

people in pain

I do not get it

Change of brain

for Mr. Bigot

BLACK

Extreme close-ups of the Chili Peppers instruments…

Back to Anthony as he turns toward the Lincoln Memorial and we zoom in on Lincoln as he sits in that massive seat and raps to camera. (Still a statue, only lips moving)

LYRICS

(Lincoln rapping)

Little brother do you hear me

have a heart oh come get near me

Misery is not my friend

but I’ll break before I bend

What I see is insanity

Quick CrossCuts between Lincoln and footage of protests for equality…

LYRICS

(Lincoln rapping)

Whatever happened to humanity

Whatever happened to humanity

Whatever happened to humanity
