FADE IN:

INT. CHRISTINA’S BEDROOM – EVENING

Five high school girls in their pajamas are gathered around a computer.

Christina, the host of the sleepover, finds what they’re looking for.

CHRISTINA

Okay, I’m in.

Who do we wanna prank first?

Bree flips through a yearbook.

She stops on a picture of a nerdy-looking kid.

BREE

How ‘bout

Norman the Mormon?

ALYSSA

Ew, he creeps me out.

WENDY

Yeah, he’s always in the science lab

dissecting something.

Christina grabs the phone.

CHRISTINA

Okay, what’s his number?

BREE

Hold up, I’m lookin’.

(Beat)

Ah, that explains a lot.

SYDNEY

What?

BREE

Our lab rat’s

applying to med school.

ALYSSA

So who wants to make an appointment

with Dr. Freak’enstein?

They all laugh. Christina grabs the phone.

CHRISTINA

I’ll do it.

She dials the number.

(Beat)

CHRISTINA

(whispering to the others)

It’s an answering machine.

(Into phone)

Hey, Norm.

(They all giggle)

This is Christina Livingston…

INT. NORMAN’S BEDROOM – CONTINUOUS

Norman, hovering over a microscope and with a pair of rubber gloves on and his head tilted in stillness listens as the answering machine takes the message.

ANSWERING MACHINE

I know someone who likes you,

but they’re too afraid to say anything.

(Giggles)

INT. CHRISTINA’S BEDROOM – CONTINUOUS

CHRISTINA

Her name is Bree Parker,

and she’s here with me right now.

Bree starts to freak out and grab for the phone.

She gets hold of it and quickly hangs it up.

BREE

What the hell?!

CHRISTINA

Relax, you’re the only one

he doesn’t have a class with.

He probably doesn’t even know you.

Alyssa scoots up to the computer and takes over the mouse.

ALYSSA

Okay, who’s next?

INT. CHRISTINA’S BEDROOM – LATER

Sprawled out over the bed the girls eat pizza while listening to a radio.

SYDNEY

Well, it’s like my cousin says.

Mouths don’t get pregnant.

She follows her interesting statement up with a mouthful of pizza. The rest of them laugh.

Suddenly Christina’s phone rings.

CHRISTINA

(checking her caller ID)

Unknown…

(She picks up)

Hello?

(Beat)

Uh-okay, just a minute.

She covers up the receiver and hands the phone out to Bree.

CHRISTINA

(whispering)

It’s him.

BREE

Who?

CHRISTINA

Norman the Mormon.

He wants to talk to you.

BREE

Are you crazy?!

I’m not gonna-

Before she can finish Christina shoves the phone to her ear.

CHRISTINA

Here she is…

Bree could kill Christina for doing so.

BREE

Hello?

Fine.

Uh-huh…

You’re out there right now?

Bree gets up and looks out the window. The other girls follow suit.

Standing in the middle of the quiet street, Norman, cellphone in one hand, a flower in the other.

Alyssa (O.S.)

Oh, shit.

The girls just stand there, speechless.

Out of nowhere, a car HORN.

Norman has just enough time to glance up, when…

BAM!

A car takes him out like a bowling pin.

BRAKES SCREECH, mixed with SCREAMS from the girls. (O.S.)

INT. HIGH SCHOOL HALLWAY – DAY

Students come and go, the five bimbos of prank among them.

LOUDSPEAKER

For all students attending

Norman Tisdale’s

memorial service this afternoon.

The girls freeze in the middle of the hall.

LOUDSPEAKER

Buses will begin loading

after lunch outside

the school auditorium.

For the rest of you,

classes will go on as scheduled.

CHRISTINA

(Quietly)

Nobody’s said anything,

right?

They all shake their heads ‘No’.

CHRISTINA

Cool.

And just like that, they continue their perky prance down the hall.

BREE

So Christina, sleepover

at your place tonight?

CHRISTINA

You know it.

INT. CHRISTINA’S BEDROOM – EVENING

The girls paint each other’s fingernails and toenails as they listen to music.

ALYSSA

Really?!

It’s really good for you?

SYDNEY

Scientifically proven.

It even helps clear up the skin.

BREE

But how does it taste?

SYDNEY

Sometimes it can be a little bitter,

but most of the time it tastes kinda sweet.

It only lasts for a couple of seconds anyway,

so just swallow it up!

Christina’s bedroom door opens as it is KNOCKED on.

Her mom peaks in. (Wearing a nurse’s uniform)

CHRISTINA’S MOM

Hun, I’m off to work.

If you girls want to order out,

there some money by the phone.

CHRISTINA

K, ma. Thanks.

INT. CHRISTINA’S BEDROOM – LATER

All seated on the bed, we push in on the back of Bree, her head tilted up towards the ceiling.

She starts to CHOKE, quickly bringing her head down as the other girls watch from around her.

SYDNEY

(taking a popsicle

from Bree’s hand)

No, you gotta tilt your head

back more and just relax.

Like this…

Just as Sydney starts to tilt her head back and bring up the popsicle the phone RINGS.

CHRISTINA

(picking up)

Hello?

Who’s this?

Christina has the phone to Bree.

CHRISTINA

It’s for you.

BREE

Who is it?

CHRISTINA

He wouldn’t say.

She takes the phone.

BREE

Hello?

(Beat)

Stop bullshitting around.

Who is this?

Bree turns quiet really fast.

She brings down the phone and looks to the others.

Without saying a word she walks over to the window and looks down at the street below.

Partially lit by the streetlight above, a figure with his head tilted down stands holding a flower and a cellphone.

He looks up to the window. It’s Norman, zombified.

START THE SONG as he steps forward. Stiffened from rigor mortis his step is accompanied by the BASS OF THE INTRO while simultaneously shaking the frame as it comes down.

(NOTE: The bass comes in four times before the vocals start.)

First time: Normon’s foot coming down on the first step.

Second time: The girls reaction shot of being shocked.

Third time: Hysterical, they scatter about.

Fourth time: Back to Norman, approaching the house.

CrossCut between him making his way to the house and the girls upstairs, frantically looking for a place to hide.

The girls start to rush down the stairs but stop in their tracks when they notice Norman at the foot of the staircase.

They flee back up as he comes up after them.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

Why did you leave

that message on my phone

Four get away, but Alyssa is caught.

A handful of hair in one hand and her chin and the other, Norman SINGS to her.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

Was it from your head

He snaps her neck.

Let’s her body fall onto the stairs.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

‘Cause I don’t know

what I done

to earn it

Bree runs back into Christina’s room.

Wendy hides in the bathroom shower.

Sydney hides under the bed of another girl’s bedroom.

Christina runs through her parents bedroom and locks herself in their walk-in closet.

LYRICS

You could be right here

Would you say what you mean

Would you wait until I’m gone

and you are lonely

Norman makes his way down the hall into the nearest bedroom.

LYRICS

And you blame me

for never understanding

He grabs one of Sydney’s ankles.

LYRICS

And if this house

was on fire

Close-up of her panicked face as he pulls her out from under the bed.

LYRICS

Would you tell me

your desire

Face-to-face he lightly brushes Sydney’s throat with his rotted fingers, admiring it.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

If my hands

were round your throat

With a swift movement he shoves her down to her knees, grabs her by the back of the head and jerks her head up to have her look up at him.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

Would you tell me

what I need to know

Norman picks up a nearby cheerleading baton.

LYRICS

There must be some way

He strokes the tip of it over her lips like lipstick.

LYRICS

Some way through this

Slightly angled at his back, (to avoid showing too much gruesome violence) Norman shoves the baton down Sydney’s throat.

LYRICS

If the sky was falling down

would I see behind that frown

A quick glimpse of Sydney looking like a pig on a spit, followed by Norman’s fingers brushing against her throat one more time, then letting her body fall over.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

If cold steel touched your skin

would you finally stop

and let me in

He turns to leave the room, camera tracking with him.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

Tell me baby

how to get through this

Immediately to the next victim- With the window open and knowing that her life depends on it Bree ties bedsheets together like there’s no tomorrow.

One of the ends of her homemade escape rope is suddenly wrapped around her neck.

The other end is already around Norman’s neck.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

And I done my time

He grabs her and goes CRASHING OUT the bedroom window.

Quick insert shot of the middle of the bedsheets secured by a leg of the bed, slack quickly running out until there’s no more.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

In the firing line

From outside the house Bree and Norman hang side-by-side, she choking to death while he SINGS to her.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

And I paid my dues

hanging from a noose

And I’ll do whatever it takes

to put a smile upon your face

In her parents closet, Christina frantically looks for something to defend herself with.

She finds an old machete.

LYRICS

I will do whatever it takes

I will do whatever it takes

Just as she stands Norman comes BUSTING through the closet door.

Christina brings down the huge knife, fueled by her SCREAM, WHACKING OFF his arm.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

If this house was on fire

would you tell me your desire

She takes off past him and out of the closet, to find…

Norman sitting on her parents bed, his arm being sewed back on by her zombified mother.

She quickly looks back to the closet.

It’s empty.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

If my hands were round your throat

would you tell me what

I need to know

Norman stands to his feet and walks over to Christina.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

There’s got to be some way

some way through this

He grabs the machete from her and makes a wide SLASH at her throat.

MATCH CUT:

The shower curtain in the bathroom is ripped from its rod…

LYRICS

If the sky was falling down

Exposing the frightened and shaking Wendy.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

Would I see behind that frown

Holding her face next to his, Norman caresses her smooth skin with the cold blade of a scalpel.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

If cold steel touched your skin

In a moment of sentiment he closes his eyes. (He may be dead, but he still feels.)

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

Would you finally stop

and let me in

Norman drags her down the hall to Christina’s room.

LYRICS

(Norman singing)

Tell me baby

how to get through this

INT. CHRISTINA’S BEDROOM – MOMENTS LATER

Bree is stretched out over Christina’s bed like an X, wrists and ankles bound.

Scattered around her, her partners in prank, some already missing body parts.

Norman approaches, dressed for surgery, assisted by Christina’s zombified mother.

She presents Norman with a silver tray.

He gently unfolds a cloth of surgical tools, picks out a horrifying sharp instrument and leans into Wendy.

Wendy’s SCREAMS are ignored by Norman as we quickly fall back and out of the bedroom window to a wide shot of the house, Christina’s room being the only one lit.
