FADE IN:

INT. HOUSE – DAY

Seated at a writing table Kenny sits up from a letter he’s working on…

LYRICS

(Kinney singing)

It might’ve been a Saturday night

it ain’t clear

It was so long ago

And gazes out the window to a rainy afternoon.

LYRICS

(Kinney singing)

It was somewhere across the county line

a dance or a party

I don’t know

DISSOLVE TO:

Kinney’s long-lost love stands under trickling dance lights, the teen blushing in a blue dress.

LYRICS

But I do know

you looked like an angel

As does young Kenny who stands before her.

LYRICS

And your eyes

were the color of your dress

DISSOLVE TO:

Present Kinney, as he writes down his memories.

LYRICS

(Kinney singing)

There’s a million things

I don’t remember

but that’s the one thing

that I won’t forget

DISSOLVE TO:

A drive-in theater, where we slowly push in on the back of a car and the two teens inside, Kenny’s handwriting appearing atop the image.

LYRICS

It might’ve been a Saturday night

It was either my folks car

or yours

I know that we went

to some drive-in

what was playing that night

I’m not sure

DISSOLVE TO:

Extreme close-up, a pair of female eyes.

LYRICS

But I am sure

you whispered you loved me

Extreme close-up, a pair of smiling female lips.

LYRICS

As my lips

softly pressed

against your neck

DISSOLVE TO:

Slow floating camera over the shoulder of the female who reads Kenny’s letter.

LYRICS

There’s a million things

I don’t remember

Which takes us to a close-up of her pleasant reaction to his words.

LYRICS

But that’s the one thing

that I won’t forget

DISSOLVE TO:

KEnny SINGING.

LYRICS

(Kinney singing)

After a while

I guess we agreed

DISSOLVE TO:

With a lot of sadness the two teens look at each other in understanding.

LYRICS

We had wings

we needed to test

Extreme close-up, their holding hands slowly part.

LYRICS

Somehow we talked

ourselves out of love

Slo-Mo, young Kenny watches as his first love walks away.

LYRICS

That such close

to love

as I’ve gotten yet

DISSOLVE TO:

With nothing to protect himself from the rain Kenny looks out before him.

LYRICS

It was 2:21

on a Sunday

and I found myself

standing in the rain

POV Shot – and watches as she waves goodbye through the back of a bus window.

LYRICS

You blew me a kiss

through the window

as your Greyhound

was pulling away

MATCH CUT DISSOLVE TO:

The same spot, only now it’s a clear day as we pan to find present Kenny.

LYRICS

(Kinney singing)

Inside

I was dying to stop you

I should’ve listened to my heart

and not my head

There’s a million things

I don’t remember

but that’s the one thing

that I won’t forget

A hand comes down upon his shoulder and he turns to find his long-lost love.

LYRICS

There’s a million things

I don’t remember

They embrace in a warm hug.

LYRICS

But you’re the one girl

that I won’t forget

DISSOLVE TO:

As Kenny carries her suitcase the two are arm in arm as they walk away together.

FADE OUT:

Do you sometimes still ponder over your first love?
